As a provider working with insurance companies has become rather infuriating. As if they do not pay behavior health counselors very much at all. We may get paid $4.00 yes I actually got a check for $4.00. The insurance company is actually saying my degress and knowledge is worth so little.
Today I have been on the phone with insurance companies trying to find out why they have not cancelled my old contracts and using my old Employee Identification Number. People do not understand why many Mental health therapist no longer take insurance well I will break it down for you. 1. They do not pay us really anything, 2. They love to pay us and then take the. money back especially if they make a mistake, 3. Contracting is a complete nightmare, 4. Talking to someone in America that speaks english is next to impossible, 5. You are in an endless transfer cycle like going to Walmart thats not their department, 6, You on and endless all day hold and need to see a therapist yourself by the time you listen to their horrible elevator music, 7. No one knows what the other person is doing.
I have been on with Tricare, Carelon, Workplace options, Blue Cross and Blue Sheild. My anxiety is through the roof-and pray they do not cancel the wrong contracts when I ask them to cancel the old ones. Of all things I wish the President would tackel is Health Care. They charge way too much and do not want to cover anything. The act as if Counseling is not needed. More people than ever need counseling. A lot of policies only cover major mental health issues and most do not cover Substance Abuse counseling. I guess you can say I am at a boiling point with all of the insurance companies.
