Thanksgiving shopping

Today after speaking with my husband he asks me to pick up and extra steak and potato for my middle daughter that will be here for dinner tomorrow. It is 1:00 PM on a Monday. Have you ever watched Christmas with the Kranks? I felt like Blairs mom running around looking for a honey baked ham. There were like no steaks, the store is packed and everyone is acting like they are just now finding out about Thanksgiving. What in the crap is wrong with you people?

This was traumatic for me, I hate crowds. I normally go like at 7:00 AM on a Saturday or Sunday. This is not the first year I have noticed this. Every year it is the same thing. For 10 months you know Thanksgiving is coming the last Thursday of every November. Why do people wait until the last minute to save 10 cents on a Turkey. Come on! Have people not figured out they mark things up to mark them down. I learned that in Business Management Class in High School.

Growing up on a Farm and living in the middle of no where, I mean 20 minutes to town. I was taught to plan ahead. I have baked cookies, and candy already. I bought the stuff for my dressing like six months ago and my Turkey three weeks ago. In fact I will probably cook somethings as I go along this week so all I have to do is put them in the oven. Personally I don’t want to spend all day cooking on Thursday. I want to relax. My mother and Grandmother taught me well. Plan a head don’t be the only one cooking pass off some of the responsibility to others.

This brings up control issues and boundaries. I want you to set some boundaries this holiday season. If you have to spend time with your family face to face everyone prepare and bring a dish. DO NOT use real plates, break out the fine china (in my house that is paper plates). Use tin pans so you can throw them away. You do not have to be in control. If I ever have a Turkey that is cooked perfect the first time I take it out of the oven I will probably have a heart attack.

When we try to control everything we disappoint ourselves expecting perfection. What if anything the holidays are a great time to learn to laugh at yourself. Just in case set out some pickles, olives, cheese, crackers and fruit for people to munch on just incase something goes wrong.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

When control is given up to God, only good things will come to us. Even when something seems devastating, it will come together for good.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
